In short, we had a very good, and I believe, profitable time at the NMC.  Many people stopped by, a lot took free items & some bought the items we were selling.sdc103121

Here is a more lengthy report:

We had many interesting conversations and discussions.  We also had many, many compliments on our booth & the items we had.  A few people even asked if Ken Ham were there, or if we were with Creation Truth Foundation (who had a booth there, too), Answers in Genesis or Creation Science Evangelism.  Of course we said that we are not affiliated in anyway, but we are doing basically the same thing they are doing (on a smaller level), but we are not competing, only complimenting.  They (CTF) had items that we didn’t have, we had items that they didn’t have.

We had a good conversation with the founder of Colegio Biblico, Harland Cary.  He had many wise words to say.  He was married to his wife Frances, for 70+ years before she died just a few weeks ago.  He has been in the ministry for 70 years (more or less), maybe a little more.  He and his wife founded Colegio Biblico in 1945. After being the ministry that long he also had many, many interesting stories to tell.  He is, to say the least, a profound man.  He has 4 children, 15 grand-children & 30 great-grandchildren.

One lady stopped by and commended us for carrying on the work of her late husband, who worked closely with Institute for Creation Research. Her husband was a speaker with Creation Science Association, he had had booths at the NMC for 15 or 20 years, until his death 3 years ago. She was sad to see how many people believe in (Macro) Evolution, and many without even knowing. She was glad to see people like us working to bring the culture back to the Truth about Genesis.

We sold a good amount of materials (also gave away a lot), although we could have sold much more.  But I’m just glad that we were able to touch the people that we did, and we hope & pray that it will impact their lives (in a good way) for years to come.

Also, as I had said in one of the last posts, our Uncle Jimmy (Kautt) had a booth (actually we had two tables in 1 booth section).  I hope that the convention was/will be profitable for his ministry (International Student Mission, in Tuebingin, Germany).

As I said before, all in all we had a very profitable and exciting time at the National Missionary Convention.  We hope we can have many more booths at places like the NMC.  If we do, we will certainly let everyone know.

Blessings,

Phoebe (Staff writer, Secretary/Librarian)

Remarkable Answers to a Mother’s Prayers

Picture this:

A board meeting, October 2008.

At the head of the massive wooden table presides the 22-year-old dark mustached male director, with twinkling brown eyes, he welcomes input from the others present. At his right elbow – leaning forward with calm interest – sits his sage advisor, a generation advanced, whom the director closely resembles, except for the spectacles, graying hair and laugh lines.

On the other side of the leader towers a fair complicated 16-year-old youth, with hands suited for farming, and a ready smile. He is passionate that their meetings open and close with prayers of thanksgiving and petitions to the Creator of all things, asking wisdom, guidance, provision and blessings.

An 18-year-old ash blonde maiden is next. She is the assistant web content manager, bubbling over with ideas, speaking with animation. Nearby, taking notes on the newly-acquired laptop computer is a quiet, efficient dark-haired girl of thirteen, she’s a whiz with the newsletters and business cards.

Her sister, aged 10 ½, with pen and paper, tries desperately to keep up with her own note taking. She occasionally contributes a worthwhile comment. She’s a thinker. Her 6-year-old brother unobtrusively draws with markers on a stack of scrap paper. He’s welcome in the meeting as long as he doesn’t disrupt.

This gathering takes place around an heirloom table in the cozy dining room of a brick ranch-style house, located in a rapidly growing suburb. By now you are understanding that this is not your grandfather’s business meeting. Rather, it’s a family ministry, headed up by the eldest son, encouraged by his parents, and supported by a spectrum of enthusiastic siblings. Not the typical ministry board. Remarkable.

How did this come about?

Well, it all started back in Genesis. But, for the sake of brevity, we fast forward to the late 1990’s.

A mother – upon observing the decay of our nation and the malaise of the Western Church – began to cry out for answers. Why, O Lord was the Church, in general so ineffective?

The answer came in stages. First, a corner of the curtain was lifted to reveal that the younger generations saw through the hypocrisy of the older generations, who in large measure only gave lip service to what they said they believed. These young people were tossing aside the “faith of the fathers” as being irrelevant and impotent.

Then, as if the Creator had drawn the curtains back fully, He showed the praying mother that the Bible’s authority had been undermined by evolutionary teachings in the most influential institutions in the land. Beginning in the government schools, and tragically embraced in the churches. The older generations didn’t believe the Bible, so why should they obey it? It seems to be a special Book, revered by many of the aging population, but was the entire thing to be taken seriously? To be obeyed?

The mother’s relief and excitement spilled over to her family. Her husband had laid a foundation of Bible teaching and a righteous example of servant-hood and compassion. They had worked together to teach their six children that God was the Sovereign Creator and His Word must be the rule and guide for their lives. The mother had long held the belief that the lord had special plans for each of her children. She and the father prayed for them.

The family had already been learning about the creation/evolution debate. But with this latest revelation came a desire to become fully educated on the topic. They attended two Ken Ham presentations in the fall of 2005. The parents were penniless, but the children were so excited about what they had learned that, after gaining permission, they pooled their resources and bought 8 DVD’s. Things snowballed from there. The eldest son, (supplemented by his younger siblings donations) who is a hard worker, used his own funds to build up a large library of resources from several creation apologetics ministries. The family became informed on a wide-range of creation science topics, always holding in mind the importance of the authority of the Scriptures, especially Genesis 1-11. Even their youngest child could spout interesting tidbits of creation/evolution related material. Remarkable.

So whose idea was it to start a family ministry, that would uphold the Truth of Scripture, with an emphasis on providing tools to aid those in the Creation evangelism field? Well, since Joel our 22-year-old is the Director we’ll let him take the credit. But this ministry was gradually gestated ant then birthed at family meal times, where lively discussions about important matters had always occurred. Probably it was everybody’s idea, a passion born out of a desire in the hearts of each family member to see souls won to the Lord, using the most effective methods. Remarkable.

These remarkable children handed our Chick Tracts on Reformation day to trick-or-treaters; they’ve set up a lending Library of Creation Apologetics at the church where the father preaches. They prepared a booth for the National Missionary Convention. They have given books and AiG tracts to unsaved neighbor children and loaned DVD’s to neighborhood adults. They’ve recently set up this ministry website and are developing a newsletter. The father has prior commitments which demand much of his time, but he offers advice, guidance and support when needed. And he has preached sermons on the subject of Creation/Evolution.

Soli deo gloria!

A brief report from the Missionary Convention

23 11 2008

Grace & Peace!

Joel and I had the wonderful opportunity to talk with our family who are in Tulsa attending the National Missionary Convention, and get some of the “low-down” on what’s been happening.

As of yesterday, Dad had to make at least 2 (maybe 3) trips to Office Depot to make more copies both for our Uncle’s and our ministry!  Wow!  It is SO exciting being a Christian.

Several people who stopped by our booth thought that we were with Answers In Genesis, and were wondering if Ken Ham was there… no, we aren’t with AiG, and sorry Ken Ham did not attend this year. :)  Many individuals expressed a real interest in the Creation materials with had available at our booth, and several of them purchased and were given materials, which was exciting. :)

Since Wi-Fi was not offered at the convention, the others have not been able to report on their activities.  I know that they’ll have a lengthy report and lots of pictures to share!

Please pray for:

  • Their safety as they travel back to Texas this evening.
  • For a wonderful time of fellowship at some new friends house today.
  • For Uncle Jim as he will be flying back to Germany on Tuesday, for safety and security on the 12-13 hour flight.
  • For encouragement and a renewed sense of purpose.

Thank you all for standing with us.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Abby – for the CET team

For the past few weeks we’ve been preparing for the National Missionary Convetion, which is in Tulsa, Oklahoma this year.  An order came in from Answers In Genesis on Wednesday, which had many items including many translated Books and DVDs in launguages such as Japanese, Chinese, German & Romanian.  You can view the pictures below and get an idea what our booth will look like at the NMC.  We invite you to visit our booth, which is number 1227.  Also, be sure to visit all of the other ones, there are many great ones!  The NMC starts on Thursday (Nov. 20) evening (around 6:00pm) and runs until Sunday morning – early afternoon.  Come any of those days you can, believe me, it will be an experience you’ll never forget!

October – December 2008 Answers Magazine Review

8 11 2008

answers-magazine

Wow!  I just finished Answers, special focus: planet earth.  All superlatives apply.  As a layman, my eyes would often glaze over when reading about global warming or the geologic column.  But after working my way through the clearly written articles in this issue, the big picture is coming into focus.  The brain fog is drifting away.

I appreciated the humility displayed by the authors on “Time for an upgrade?” and “Barn-what?” and the new-to-me topic of floating forests was quite fascinating.  “Loving Science, Loving God” wrapped the ribbon around it all explaining the motive for studying God’s creation.  It showed – so seamlessly and joyfully – how it all works together and calls out hearts to stand in awe and worship our Creator.

The format is very layman-friendly.  I thank Answers In Genesis for another informative issue of Answers.  They continue to equip us in our ability to evangelism and answer the skeptics.  Wish I could go door-to-door and hand out copies of this particular issue.  How exciting to live at this juncture in history, when Creation Scientists are formulating Bible-source models that make sense of the data around us.  I look forward to future articles unveiling the latest research and models, as promised by AIG’s editor-in-chief.

Creation Library Reviews

HOW MAJESTIC IS THY NAME – New Leaf Press, Steve Terrell

This is more than simply a picture book.  In 70 pages of breathtaking photography, the reader is invited to “delight in the grandeur of God.”  Thirty-three topics are explored including astronomy, our earth, weather, flora and fauna; a two-page spread per topic.  Prose on the left-hand page draws our attention to the jaw dropping splendors of Jehovah’s majestic creation.  The facing page reminds us of how easy it was for such a magnificent powerful God to create such things.

GENESIS: THE BOTTOM STRIP OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH – Carl Kerby, speaker

Carl Kerby used to work at the world’s busiest air-port as an air traffic controller.  In this engaging DVD, Mr. Kerby speaks about how air traffic controllers determine which planes to deal with first.  Using the lingo of his former occupation, he draws an analogy of what is most important in the Christian faith.  With humor, he shows the foundational nature of the book of Genesis.
